Dragons in our Midst – Celebrating the Completion of a Long Journey

Omega Dragon Front Cover 400 WideThis evening my family will celebrate the completion of Omega Dragon and the 20-year journey that began with a dream that sparked the idea for Dragons in our Midst.

We will have fun food (including home-made ice cream), and we will reminisce about the blessings and even the potholes we experienced along the way.

If you would like to be a part of the celebration, post a comment, and (if it’s appropriate) I will read it to my family during our time together.

Thank you, all of you, who have helped make this story world a success.

  1. The Dragons in the Midst series was a serious that touched me deeply, and actually helped to save my life and helped craft me into who I am today. Without the series I would not be the same person that I am today, and I might not even be here. Thank you Bryan for you dedication to this series, and to your family for the support they gave you the entire time. You are not merely an Author to me, but you are also a mentor to me, and I value you greatly.

  2. I wasn’t with the story from the very beginning but I am going to stuck with it to the end. These books taught me a lot and mean a lot to me. They have been good friends to me through High School. Through them I’ve learned a lot about my faith and what to look for in faithful man. I want to thank you, Mr. Davis, for writing these amazing stories that have changed my life.

  3. Wow! That’s cool. 20 years. That’s amazing. I will try to to be there to comment later today!

  4. Oh my goodness, I can’t believe it’s almost over. This book series is just wonderful, definitely my favorite ever! These books have been my friends for so many years. I remember the feeling of excitement I had when Children of the Bard was announced. These stories mean so much to me, I could never express them in words. Thank you so much, Mr. Davis, for what you have created!

  5. I just have to say that I started reading the DIOM series when I was around ten years old (and I will be turning 20 in a couple weeks), and it has been the best adventure! Aside from God’s Word, I have never been this attached to a book [series]. I have laughed, cried, and rejoiced with these characters, and I am (as silly as it sounds) heartbroken that their adventures will be coming to an end…

I wanted to thank you for writing these books as I’ve come to realize how much I have in common with some of the struggles that your characters have endured and grown from. (Spiritual struggles, mind you, & not the dragon-fighting ones, although I felt like I was there with them “slaying” the “bad guys”. :p)

I thoroughly am looking forward to Omega Dragon and its many (and last) adventures! Thank you again.

God bless you and your family –
    Abigail R.

  6. Every year I re-read the books that have changed my life and the Dragons in our Midst series is at the top of my list with the classics To Kill a Mocking Bird, and Anne of Green Gables. I grew with the books, and through the books I was able to explore my faith and scripture in a way that my adventure craving ADHD mind demanded. I started reading these books when I was twelve, now I am twenty two. I hate to see them end, but that is the way of all things this side of eternity. Thank you so much fro Twenty years of writing and crafting, no doubt I’m just one of many who have been changed for the better by the witness of these stories.

  7. I only started these books after last Christmas, but they are some of the best I have ever read! The way you entwined speculative fiction, real events, legend, and fantasy all together was amazing. These books really challenged me to be a better man. I pray that I can influence as people for Christ, through my writing as much as you. Thank you for giving me a great role models in the fictional world and the real world!

  8. I was introduced to Dragons in our Midst about 10 years ago (I’m 17 now) when my sister bought the first book, and right from the start it captured me. I’ve rejoiced and suffered with the characters, laughed and cried, sang and danced. My parents have always tried to raise me as a gentleman, and in our secular world it is becoming more and more difficult to do that. Your books drew me in because you were the one author who seemed to share that view; the young men in your books are exactly what I have been trying to do. They became my role models! Knowing that there were still people sharing that view gave me the courage to keep striving for that, even when my closest friends struck me down. Without your books – all of them – I would be very lost today; because of them, I have learned to be a light in this dark world, and I’m so thankful that you have let God’s glory shine!

To your family, thank you for giving your husband and father the support to create such an incredible and Godly story. You are so blessed to have him, and I’m sure that the Lord is smiling down on all of you as you celebrate!

Mr. Davis, thank you so much for a series that has turned my life and many others around. If there is any writer worthy of the title Oracle of Fire, it is you!

  9. 20 years. Wow. That is incredible.

I only first heard about DioM and its subsequent series four years ago, and fell in love with it as soon as I picked it up. God brought it to me at the tail end of a very rough time in my family’s life, and being able to read about brave men who stand for truth and integrity, and bold women who aren’t afraid to stand up and proclaim God and His principles just… it helped keep me from falling.
Not to mention that your example as a writer and author never ceases to inspire me. I want my books to be just as real, just as powerful. I pray that my writing can touch the lives of others just as these books have touched mine.
And while I’ll be sad to see it come to a close, it’s been a fantastic journey that I’ll never forget, and I’ll keep the books close to my heart for the rest of my life. I’ll read them and reread them until the page corners are worn. I’ll tell them to my children and my grandchildren, and tell them that they can be just as brave, just as true, and just as on fire for God as Billy, Bonnie, and all the beloved characters that spring to life between the book covers.

Thank you, Mr. Davis, for sharing this incredible journey with us. God bless you and your family.

  10. The Dragons in Our Midst Storyline has been the best faith based/fictional story line of all time. I have never read a book more than once (other than the Bible), but I had to relive theses adventures over and over again. Not only that, I had to share them with the elementary kids I minister to each and every Sunday as a Children’s Pastor. I got several kids hooked on the adventures as well. I was pleased knowing that they were excelling in their reading, but also encouraged in their faith. I even got my wife hooked on them. She has yet to read the Children of the Bard series because she has been waiting for the final book to come out so she can read it all the way through. We are expecting our first baby this summer and I cant wait to for my baby to be old enough to appreciate these adventures as much as I do. I long to read them to my kids each night before bedtime. Especially boys. I want them to learn what it means to be a knight that is brave, true, just, and faithful.

Thank you Bryan Davis for allowing our family to be a part of your families adventures!

We long for the day they become full length feature films in the box office!

  11. These books are one of the reasons I am so in love with reading and writing. The way words on a page, when given a much deeper meaning, can pull you into a world and have you holding on for dear life is like magic. I read them out loud to my brother and he reads more than me now. All my friends freak out when a new one comes out and we’ll pass copies around and we all marble at how nice they look lined up on our shelves. There’s just something about these books and your writing and the messages you’re getting a cross that are… Transcendent. Actually, we are all preparing for the release of Omega Dragon by stocking up on tissues and telling everyone we will disappear for a few days once we get it. Thank you so much for all the work and time you’ve put into this spectacular series.

  12. I have been reading the Dragons in Our Midst books ever since I found them in 2006. I fell in love with the characters immediately, and couldn’t get my hands on the next adventure fast enough. When I closed Tears of a Dragon, I felt a sense of loss and sadness at saying goodbye to my new friends. It wasn’t long, however, before I realized that you had started a new series that picked up where the first left off. It was at this point that I knew I had found a world I could get lost in. By this time I had caught up to Mr. Davis, leaving me anxiously awaiting each new book, leading up to Bones of Makaidos. This book beautifully brought to a close the adventures began in Raising Dragons, and instantly became my favorite book. I have read this particular book many times, several times more than any other book. After rejoicing with the characters, I once again began to feel a sense of loss for this world that I had grown to love. I love it so much, I try to share it with anyone I know who loves fantasy. So far, I have only been successful in introducing my sweetheart to this wonderful story, but we both love your stories. There are simply not enough words to describe how much these stories mean to me. I am both looking forward to reading this final chapter of the incredible world that has been my escape for the past decade, and dreading experiencing an adventure with these amazing characters for the final time. I have a feeling I will be weeping over these pages a great deal more than any of the previous books. Although this particular story world, from the first word all the way to the last, will remain the most wonderful I have experienced, I look forward to reading more stories from your gifted mind. Mr. Davis, thank you for giving readers a world to escape to that is filled with courage, integrity, faith, the love of the Maker, and so many lessons and experiences. Thank you for your heart for teaching teens (and adults) what it means to have the heart of a dragon, the faith of an Oracle of Fire, and the love that can only come from the Maker.

  13. I was introduced to this series in 2006, and I haven’t stopped reading them since. The way the characters displayed their reliance on God’s word throughout their harrowing adventures has been such a joy for me to read and “experience”. I was overjoyed to find a series that so masterfully intertwined the worlds of fantasy, scripture, legend and reality in such a vivid and realistic way that it has driven me to create more books like it for others to read. I adore your series and characters, and I have spent many a night staying up past midnight hooked on your tales and delving into the adventures.
I am sad to see them go, but I know that I can re-read them and live the adventure all over again. Thank you, Mr. Davis for your amazing work and for the time you, and your family, have put into this inspiring adventure. I have since hooked my sister and a friend on the series, and have yet to hook my parents. 😀
Thank you for your wonderful work, both in the world of DioM and all the other myriads of God honoring, and faith inspiring series that have fueled my own life and imagination.
Thank you so much, and I pray that God will continue to fuel you and your family’s imagination for many more inspiring tales. I can’t say this enough: Thank you. 🙂

  14. There is no way I could ever accurately describe how much these books mean to me.

I read Raising Dragons when I was ten years old; now, nine years later, I am eagerly awaiting the last installment in one of my favorite book series of all time. These books have shaped who I am and helped my relationship with God to grow and flourish. They made me see the world differently and even helped me realize what I wanted to do with the life God has given me. Especially through the words, prayers, and actions of Bonnie, who has always been my hero, I have learned what it truly means to trust the Lord with everything.

I have also followed all of your other stories, and they are all some of my absolute favorite books! They have also taught me many lessons as well, but the story that began with Raising Dragons has always been the closest to my heart.

I’m so sad to see the end of this story world; I’m actually getting a little teary-eyed just thinking about it! But I know that everything has to end some time, and I’m sure that the last book will be AMAZING, like your books always are. And I also know that in the years to come, I will reread the Dragons in our Midst, Oracles of Fire, and Children of the Bard books over and over again, as they still have the ability to make me laugh, cry, and remember the truly amazing power of our Savior.

Thank you so much, Mr. Davis, for changing my life through these books. Thank you for allowing God to use you in such an awesome way. 🙂

  15. 20 years. Amazing.

I started the series when I was 11 or 12. Since then, I have bought them right as they came out. They are some of the best books I have ever read. More importantly, they helped and strengthened my relationship with God. They have made me cry on one page, and made me fill with joy on the next.

You are amazing to let God use you in this way. Your books have changed my life.

I am sad to see the conclusion of the series, but I know it has to happen. I will always reread the series over and over again, and lose sleep reading. 😉

Thank you so much for all you do, spiritual and in books. Thank you for all the amazing opportunities you have given me.

    Thank you x 100,000,00,000!!!!!

  16. Oh gosh, where do I start?
There is just something about these books that never gets old. I could read them over and over again, and I would never get bored. They are that great.

These books have also helped me spiritually. Seeing how God worked in the lives of the characters inspired me. They never gave up, no matter what, and have inspired me to do the same.

  17. Mr Davis,
Thank you so much for these books. I remember waiting for my eleventh birthday (When I was allowed to read them). Since then, in the three years that have passed, as I’m now fourteen, your series has helped me through so much stuff-loneliness in school, doubting God, and wondering if He really loves me. Your books, however, have shown me that even if I give up on God, He doesn’t give up on me. Billy’s and Bonnie’s adventures with dragons and with the Lord have captured me. Thank you again for these books.

  18. Mr. Davis
I want to thank you so much. These characters-(especially the girls)- have continued to be with me though all my difficult times. These books have made me realize the importance of our faith, of our family and friends, and our realtionship with God our Father.
Sometimes I find myself believing in these books so hard that I believe the characters to be real. Their struggles and pain was relatable and their joy and happiness memorable.
I pray you had as much fun creating, writing, and working on this amazing series as I had reading them.
I continue to open them up and delve into their lives whenever I find myself going through hard times, so I really would just like to thank you for giving me that comfort-zone and helping me out.
May God continue to be with you as you continue to write-maybe even as you start another chapter in your life full of brand new plots and characters!
    thank-you and God bless

  19. I cannot imagine my life without Dragons in our Midst. I was first introduced to it by my best friend by way of a phone conversation. I thought it sounded completely crazy, and then forgot about it. One day, at our local library, I picked Raising Dragons up off the shelf and cracked open the cover not expecting to read very far. I read the opening poem and the rest is history. I was drawn in from the first stanza and don’t believe I put it down until I had read most of the story. From there I devoured the next 3 books and was sad, to say the least, when it ended. Then, I discovered an entire second series! Oracles of Fire, which now sits on my bookshelf along with the rest of the 11. Thank you so much for a spiritual and emotional journey that has forever changed my life. The characters exhibit traits that I try to model in my Christian journey and I have totally enjoyed every thrilling battle, tragic death, and joyful reunion that kept me up into the early morning hours. Thank you for sharing your God given gifts with me, Mr. Davis!

    Thank you,
    Michaela

  20. Billy and Bonnie and Co. have been like close companions throughout my teen years. Their adventures inspire me every time I relive them, and there is so much to be gleaned from the pages. Such vivid heroes encourage me by their example. They inspire me to lift my own sword, to spread my own wings, and to continually give myself to the Lord as His oracle of fire. Thank you for penning such life-changing tales, Mr. Davis–and thank your family for standing by you on this incredible journey!

  21. Mr. Davis- On behalf of me and my 3 siblings I would like to thank for writing these books. I started reading the series when I was 11 and immediately fell in love with them. It was a year after my dad died so your books definitely were, and still are, a huge source of encouragement, comfort and strength throughout my journey of life. You most certainly are one of my favorite authors. I love the way you right and your awesome characters (Walter and Ashley are my favs). Reading your books makes me want to go out ride dragons and sword fight bad guys (the first time I read them I totally wanted wings.) 🙂 I’m now 15 and probably reread each of the books every year. I pray that God will bless you and your family for the 20 years of sacrifices that were made to write these books. They have truly helped me to be who God wants me to be. I truly can’t wait to read Omega Dragon!

  22. Thank you, everyone, for your great comments. I enjoyed reading them to my family last night. What a blessing!
