Update and Plans for the Future

Susie with Doctor

Susie and her oncologist, Dr. Lee Schwartzberg

Thank you for your patience regarding my pause in posting during the past two months.

I thought you might like an update on my wife’s progress. Susie had a mastectomy, which included the removal of a cancerous tumor.ย Genetic testing on theย tumor resulted in a classification the doctor called “low intermediate” for recurrence.

According to statistics, for her type of tumor, chemotherapy would provide negligible to zero benefits over an estrogen inhibitor, so the doctor recommended against chemo and for the inhibitor.

This is exactly the news we have been praying for.

There are potential side effects of the inhibitor – hot flashes, joint pain, and bone-density loss. Susie will get a bone-density scan to establish a baseline, and they will monitor for any loss. She will also take calcium supplements and increase resistance training to help with bone strength and density.

Still, the potential side effects of chemotherapy are much worse, so we are ecstatic about avoiding that. Also, there will be no radiation. This is a huge double blessing.

The next step is another visit to the plastic surgeon in late June to discuss breast reconstruction.

Thank you to all who have supported us during these difficult weeks.

I hope to resume regular posts sometime this summer, maybe late July, including writing tips and critiques. We’ll see how it goes.

  14. Bryan, I just came across a YouTube video you posted which led me here. I am happy to hear God is answering the desires of your hearts. If it’s any encouragement, I have two cousins who have beat breast cancer. One has been in remission 9 years and the other 8. Stand strong.
