Top Ten Most Difficult Books to Write – #4

Top ten most difficult books for me to write:

#4 – Enoch’s Ghost (#2 in Oracles of Fire)

This book set up a whole new direction for the story world. The creation of Second Eden, the history of Makaidos (Timothy), the transformation of the spirit of the original Arramos, and many other aspects combined to make this story foundational.
These elements, however, had very little to do with the current cast of characters, and I had to somehow bring them in without feeling like I was shoehorning them into a new mythology.
Several attempts failed. They simply didn’t work. I decided to put the story aside for a while and ask God to give me an idea.
That’s when I started finding a dime and two pennies.
What did these coins have to do with figuring out the story? Everything. To learn more, read about it here – http://www.daviscrossing.com/DimeTwoPennies.pdf
Because of these revelations, I decided to take a bold step and put Billy and Bonnie in the background for a while and instead feature Walter and Ashley along with Elam, Sapphira, Naamah, Timothy, and others.

Walter’s journey into hell, Elam’s mercy toward Naamah, Timothy’s sacrifice in Listener’s place, and Ashley’s faith journey made this story into a heart-warming and heartbreaking odyssey.
All of these elements combined to make the story extremely difficult to write. I believe, however, that it worked quite well.

  1. I love this series of posts; I have to admit that I didn’t expect a lot of the books you’ve mentioned to be on the list! I’ll be interested to hear what #1 is—maybe Omega Dragon or Eye of the Oracle? 🙂 Funnily enough, I just found a dime and two pennies last week while at the gym! I got so excited and my husband was very confused until I read your story to him. I keep the dime and two pennies on my desk now as a daily reminder to have faith and trust God with the gifts He’s given me. 🙂
